THE HUNGRY EYE

With my work I want to say, ‘Look at this beautiful thing I’ve discovered ~ isn’t it amazing! I hope you are amused, gratified and inspired by the marvel of this animal, flower, angel, and/or color I put before you.’

I thrive through experiencing the world visually, seeking intelligent beauty wherever I go and capturing ideas for art-making in nature, fashion and the vernacular of everyday life. These choice elements are combined into narratives of my own surreal creations: a bird-headed woman conversing with an angel-faced butterfly; a large marsupial with soulful eyes dominating an elegant living room; or a marching blue bird wearing red tights.

Creating my work begins by drawing from a large filing system, of photographs and ideas torn from magazines or graphic design samples, with images of nature, faces, body parts, landscapes or silhouettes; along with exotic papers, found objects, pressed flowers and leaves.

These files are fodder for building my art. Of course, I only use a tiny fraction of this treasure trove, but amazingly, small scraps of paper or fragments of an image can fuel inspiration and trigger the impulse to create something singularly my own.
